Documenting the start of my wire mesh bag making session. Space is always at a premium in our tiny apartment; I like to pretend it’s training for a New York studio apartment. Here is my muse, a Pharmacy bag was a handy subject as I couldn’t find the original bags supplied for the exercise. I got the bag from the superstore pharmacy, it contained my new medication to help me sleep better at night; increased stress brought on by the pandemic coupled with an apartment to hot to sleep in last august meant i had a couple weeks of very little proper sleep. The shadows on a white bag show nicer contrast then brown I think. Here is my completed wire mesh bag sown together with the silver thread provided. For my second bag I used chicken wire rather then the mesh provided. I did this because I had tangled the thread provided so much that I could only salvage enough for the first bag. I used the same dimensions, the stiffer wire held its shape without sewing together. The shadows cast from my desk lamp was pleasing; the hexagonal pattern of the chicken wire distorted in interesting ways. The shadow pattern reminds me of the game Settlers of Catan.the wire mesh bag casts a much stronger shadow with a broader value contrast.
